Issues
What is the PSC's biggest failure? I believe the PSC’s biggest failure involves its unwillingness to advocate for real competition on both the supply and demand sides of energy markets. What is your stance on private ex-parte talks with industry? The people’s business should be done out in the open not behind closed doors. As Commissioner, I will not practice in ex-parte talks with companies that have business pending before the board. What can you do to hold down energy prices? As Commissioner, I would vote and advocate for policies that bring real competition to energy markets. This would allow the market to set prices at a natural level that are absent of subsidies. Many would say that telecommunications is a fully competitive business. Should the PSC continue to be involved in telecommunications regulations, why or why not? No. The telecommunications industry is an example of how having minimal government intrusion in the business sector can greatly benefit consumers. Should consumers pay the construction cost for utility companies? Investor owned companies should let shareholders bare the risk of new development not consumers. What qualifies you to serve on the Commission? Going beyond the statutory qualifications, I bring a solid record of community service, leadership, and advocacy with organizations such as NAACP, Habitat for Humanity, the Grady County Planning Commission, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. What experience do you have regulating any energy field? I only plan to push for the minimal regulation necessary to protect the environment and to insure public safety. As Commissioner, I would like to see the PSC’s role in regulating energy reduced. |
